The rapid evolution of cruise ships over the past hundred plus years has been an incredible accomplishment of human engineering. It goes without saying that the natural progression of technology has made ships much more sophisticated than their predecessors, but what’s truly impressive is how they dwarf even the grandest ocean liners from the early days of cruise ships.

To put this into perspective, perhaps the most famous cruise ship, Titanic, was 882 feet long (268m) and had a passenger capacity of 2,453 people. While still impressive, especially for its day, Titanic’s size might not even be enough to crack the 100 largest list.

The cruise ships of today are essentially floating cities, complete with restaurants, water parks, casinos, night clubs, and much more. On this list, we present the six largest cruise ships currently sailing the world’s oceans. Each ship is ranked in order from 6 to 1, based on gross tonnage (the internal volume of the ship).
